Frequently Asked Questions

Thank you for your interest in the Harvard Business School Club of Utah. The following are answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the Club. For additional information, please contact Club President Ted McAleer at emcaleer[at symbol]mba1999.hbs.edu.

1. How do I become a member?

In CY2009, club membership is complimentary for any HBS graduate living or working in Utah.

If you have recently moved to Utah, you should start by updating your contact information with the HBS Alumni office in Cambridge. The HBS Club of Utah has adopted the HBS LEFA (Lifelong Email Forwarding Address) system for electronic communications. LEFA is a communication tool that is gaining wide adoption among leading universities and alumni associations because it enables every graduate to have a common name format for receiving email.

Using your LEFA will allow you to self-register for HBS Club of Utah events, manage your communications and contact information with the club and Harvard Business School, and reach out to other alumni. We encourage you to keep your contact information up to date - it only takes about three minutes.

2. How do I update my LEFA (Lifelong Email Forwarding Address)?

The HBS Alumni Office gas set up a simple system for you to learn more about your LEFA and to update your password and personal profile. It only takes a few minutes. Click HERE to start the process.

Don't forget that you will need your LEFA and password to access certain member-only features of the site.

3. Who do I contact with questions about the HBS Club of Utah?

If you have suggestions for club events, questions or difficulty using any of the functions of this site, please email Club President Ted McAleer: emcaleer[at symbol]mba1999.hbs.edu. Be sure to replace the phrase [at symbol] with the "@" character.

4. What is the mission of the HBS Club of Utah?

The Harvard Business School Club of Utah serves three constituent groups: HBS Alumni; the Harvard Business School; and the Utah community in which our members live and work. The Club organizes and executes a number of activities and events each year so that it might play a key role in the following areas:

  • For Alumni: Serve as a forum to discuss topics of interest in business and society; encourage business and social relationships among alumni; serve as a conduit for HBS news to area alumni via faculty and staff visits.
  • For the Harvard Business School: Facilitate communication of alumni views and ideas to the HBS Alumni Program Office; assist MBA students in making contact with Utah employers; influence outstanding men and women to apply to HBS.
  • For the Utah community: Provide community service (e.g. advise nonprofit groups and small businesses); recognize outstanding entrepreneurial and managerial achievement by Utah business executives; work with other organizations/associations in Utah to facilitate educational programming on business topics for the community.
