Understanding Nutrition - February 19, 2009

"Lunch with Leo" to Explore Nutritional Pathways to Health

USTAR and the Leonardo extend a special invitation to the HBS Club of Utah to attend their public science lecture and luncheon on Feb. 18th featuring Dr. David York and Dr. Michael Lefevre of USU's Center for Advanced Nutrition (CAN).

CAN aims to understand the mechanisms through which diet impacts health and disease from the level of the gene to the whole individual. The Center focuses on the modern scourges of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and Alzheimer's.

At this Lunch with Leo session - entitled "Are you what you eat or what your genes condemn you to?" - the professors will facilitate a wide-ranging discussion of diet. We'll explore myths and breakthroughs around the individual choices in what we eat and how we respond to our diets. We'll discuss how nutritional choices in what we eat and how we respond to our diets. We'll discuss how nutritional science may influence our health and disease in the future, including the development of new tests and products, and nutritional approaches to prevent disease.

And don't worry, at Lunch with Leo, we'll have plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains to enjoy. CAN's clinical dietician is helping design the menu!
